“El nos cuido!” (“The Lord took care of us!”)
by Mary Tan
When the Aguilar sisters shared their testimony at last October’s Night of Worship, they had no idea if their prayers to be reunited with their parents would ever be answered (http://wp.me/p1toK4-7f). In addition to becoming recent members of ALCF, find out how God has ignited their journey of faith and obedience.
Since December 2010, Reyna and her younger sister Danae have been glued to their phones, apprehensively awaiting updates on their parents’ escape from Cuba. Reyna wonders, “Why is it taking so long?” But, earlier this year, her question is answered. Sitting aboard an inbound flight to San Francisco, her parents are mesmerized by the view of an April skyline. As the beautiful pinpricks of light grow brighter and brighter, Pablo and Dulce Aguilar are about to complete the last leg of an arduous, four-month journey from Cuba into the waiting arms of their daughters. Simply stated, this reunion is an answer to prayer. Read more

I had no idea how pivotal 1980 would be when I relocated to Los Angeles from the Bay Area to attend fashion design school. I moved to Montebello, just east of Los Angeles, and worked part-time as an assistant manager for a fabric store. I was a young, African-American woman excited about what the future held but with a dormant spiritual life. I hadn’t been to church regularly since I graduated high school having been turned off by a well-meaning army chaplain trying to connect with my generation. Read more

As a former victim of domestic abuse, I remember being in a dead-end marriage with no way to escape. I had committed my life to a ungodly man and introduced my children from the marriage to a life of hell. Due to self-pity, shame, lack of support, and resources, I allowed myself to be victimized in the six-year marriage that not only aged me, but broke down my spirit. However, the one thing that I remained true to was my faith in God, constantly searching for answers, praying for God’s will, and diligently seeking God’s presence. Read more
