In Memoriam: Pastor Sid Harms

On Tuesday, February 21, Pastor Sid Harms went home to be with the Lord. He had served as our pastor of Marriage and Family Ministries for over eleven years and, while we are deeply saddened by his passing, we are extremely grateful to God for his ministry which has had a tremendous impact on the lives and marriages of many in the ALCF family and beyond.

To us on staff, he has been a wonderful friend, colleague, mentor, and pastor. We will miss him greatly.

Please join us in praying for Pastor Sid’s wife and ministry partner of forty years, Christine, and their family.

The Harms also welcome your expressions and condolence and remembrance which you can post at pastor-sid-harms.forevermissed.com. Cards may be sent to the ALCF administrative offices at 2581 Leghorn St, Mountain View, CA 94043. (The family has requested that no flowers be sent to the home due to allergies.)

If you would like to provide practical support to Christine and the family, we invite you to email the coordinator at careforchristine@gmail.com.

Leslie, Maria, and Gina Covello

Answering The Call

by Grace Dulcé

What began for ALCF member Gina Covello as a two-year volunteer assignment with Kid’s Club, has become a lifelong commitment and friendship with two young girls whom she came to know deeply through this weekly after school program at Brentwood Academy in East Palo Alto. Gina, a former high school teacher, felt God’s calling through ALCF’s weekly service announcements.

“It’s funny because when God calls you, He really calls you.”

The goal of ALCF’s Kids Club is not to just teach kids biblical lessons and values, but to help them apply God’s Word to situations and circumstances in their own lives given the challenges they face at home, in their neighborhoods, and at school. Read more »

“Let Them Eat Cake!”

Pastor Sid and Christine Harms’ Fortieth Wedding Anniversary—Cake, Coffee, and Card Reception Held on August 28, 2011

by Elizabeth Softky

“Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.”—Psalm 127a

It’s a beautiful celebration for a lovely couple whose love for God and each other is as fresh today as it was when they met in high school. Fellowship hall guests maneuver their way through tables topped with generous bunches of fragrant red roses and scattered with photos of the Harms’ wedding and honeymoon trip. A stream of well-wishers wait patiently in line to thank Pastor Sid and his wife, Christine, for how they’ve been blessed by them. Read more »

Kennzeil Love

ALCF Member: 4 Years

“I’ve been at ALCF since September 2007 because God told my parents it was time for a change. This is exactly what happened for me too, when I joined GX (Generation Example).”

Ministry Service: GX

“As I’ve always seen, if you stay in one place and follow the same routine from the same director, everything is predictable, then you get comfortable and don’t experience much growth or anything different. When I came to ALCF, although I didn’t like it at first, I grew with the Lord and even really gave my life to Him. Now, I’m involved with HIS (His Image Staged), as well as an accountability group which meets every Wednesday.”

Degree: High school Diploma, Piedmont High school, 2011

Future Aspirations:  Kennzeil will be attending San Jose City College this fall and eventually plans to transfer to Biola University.

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”—1 Corinthians 13: 4–7

Thiago De Souza

ALCF Member: 4 Years

“I was looking for a place where as a teen, I could grow in Christ and share my gifts and talents. I have always wanted to be a part of a diverse group and ALCF was the perfect fit for me.”

Ministry Service:  GX Generation Example & ALCF Music Department

“GX has changed my life in the sense that it helped me get closer to God. Before I went to GX I was a rebel child you may say. I lied, stole, cheated, cussed, got into fights, etc. But ever since then, the influence the leaders and students in GX started to rub off on me. Little by little I started giving up my old ways, simply because I had positive influence from the leaders and I picked my friends carefully and also because God was still at work in my life.”

Degree: High school Diploma, South City High school, 2011

Next Steps: This Fall, Thiago will be attending Liberty University.

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.  Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”—James 1:2–4

MEMBER MILESTONES—MARRIAGE: May 14, 2011

“Being newly married in the Lord is Awesome! We are so grateful and blessed to be members at ALCF where we are surrounded by, so great a cloud of witnesses—through the gifted and dedicated pastors, teachers, godly examples of marriage and family members—all committed to doing marriage God’s way and in His time. We credit the Holy Spirits divine guidance through both the Marriage Fundamentals Class, as well as, the couples counseling we engaged in, for setting our feet on the solid ground of God’s teaching and equipping us for a covenant relationship with our Lord Jesus. We are so blessed in Him! Praise the Lord!”—George and Cynthia Coates
